Centrale Montemartini was Italy's first public power plant, just over 100 years ago. It is now home to multiple sculptural masterpieces and has become quite the destination.
The gallery lies just south of central Rome, making it relatively quiet but easy to get to. Monte Martini mainly houses sculptures from times past as well as wonderful mosaics and the odd fresco. The machinery holds another element of nostalgia and seems frozen in time. The stark and industrial nature of the backdrop mixed with the ancient romanticism of the art will certainly leave a lasting impression.
